At Battrecycle, we are determined to reduce the impact throwing away batteries has on the environment. In return, we’re rewarding local communities, charities and schools – so get recycling those batteries!
At Battrecycle, we believe in the power of collective action and the positive ripple effect it can create. We're not just passionate about recycling batteries; we're also committed to making a difference in the lives of others. That's why, for every battery recycled at a Battrecycle collection point, we donate to charities that share our vision for a better world.
Portable batteries contain aluminium, brass, cobalt, copper, lead, lithium, manganese, nickel and zinc – that’s over 10,000 tonnes of valuable metals thrown away each year. If we don’t recycle our old batteries - these metals corrode and contaminate our environment.
Over 90% of the batteries we collect are recycled here in the UK and the metals recovered for reuse in industry – the remaining specialist batteries, such as nickel and cadmium, go to France for recovery. Nothing goes to landfill.
Old, damaged, and unwanted Batteries that are thrown into general waste, cause almost two fires every day in the UK.
When thrown into the general waste, batteries can puncture, dent, or get crushed, causing fires in bin lorries and waste plants.
It is estimated that 840 million portable batteries are thrown away every year in the UK - and directly contaminating our environment as a result.
Allocate a safe place to store your dead batteries at home, then take them to your local supermarket or one of our participating charities at least once a year.
